The first sessions announced in 2024 are coming. We are opening in-person and online sessions open to individual registration, for our Embedded Linux and Yocto Project and OpenEmbedded training courses:
Yocto Project and OpenEmbedded
In-person – Feb. 25-28 2025, Avignon, France
Online – Mar 18-20, 25-27, 2025
Embedded Linux
Online, Apr. 14-17, 22-25, 2025
In-person, May 5-9, 2025, Avignon, France
Shared features
Both courses, online and in-person, share the same key features:
- 75% of active learning time through practical labs and activities. You won’t get more than 25% of the time going through theory.
- No long lectures: sequences of theory never exceed 30 minutes, and are interleaved with quick or longer practice.
- Progressive but challenging practical labs and varying techniques to make the learning always stimulating and fun, and above all to make it stick.
- Number of participants limited to 8, to make sure that the trainer has enough time to support all participants.
- Course never postponed: once you are registered to one of our public sessions (after we receive your payment), you are sure to participate at the expected dates. We don’t postpone sessions, even with a very small number of participants.
- Practical labs on the BeaglePlay board with the Sitara AM625 SoC (ARM64) from Texas Instruments. This board with rich connectivity and a powerful CPU is great for prototyping.
- You can use your preferred GNU/Linux distribution, as long as its version is supported by the Yocto Project.
In-person public sessions
The in-person sessions will happen in Avignon, France.
While this city doesn’t have a major airport, it is still very well connected to the rest of France and Europe thanks to France’s high-speed train network. This way, it’s only 3 hours away from the Paris airport, and you can take advantage of your trip to spend the week-end in Paris before or after the course.
On the other hand, accommodation is much more affordable than in bigger cities, and Avignon is a great place to relax after the course, enjoying French food and the sunny weather of the south of France.
Here are the main features of our public courses in addition to the ones already listed above:
- The electronic board and all accessories are provided by Root Commit for the duration of the course. You don’t have to order them.
- You can use your own laptop (again with the distribution of your choice) and return home with all the sources files and binaries you created. If you don’t have Linux on your laptop yet, we recommend to make free space and then install Linux alongside your existing OS (easy to do on Windows PCs).
Online public sessions
Our online public sessions also have differentiating features:
- You don’t get just demos from the instructor. You also do practical labs during the course hours, with remote support from the trainer.
- You also get video recordings of the lectures from the trainer. This can come in handy to review the details of a particular topic after the course. Note that these videos are for your own use only, and that participants won’t be recorded for obvious privacy reasons.
- Our sessions are split in half days over two weeks, leaving time to go on contributing to your ongoing projects.
- The timeslot (15:00 to 19:00 UTC+1) should be suitable for both participants in Europe and in North America.
If you have more than 4 people to train for the same company, you may also consider ordering a private session, either on-site or online. Ask us for a quote!
